The short version for parents
- For a student in Grades 1 to 12, we ask a parent or guardian for consent by email. A parent can change or withdraw it at any time, without an Acemate account.
- We never sell a child’s data, Acemate shows no advertising, and page views are never counted on student accounts.
- The Acemate AI engine reads and marks submitted work. AI feedback can be wrong, so a teacher or parent should review it.
- A student can delete their account from their Profile page.
1. Children on Acemate
Under the DPDP Act, a child is anyone under 18. Acemate is built for students in Grades 1 to 12, so we treat every student account as a child’s unless it is clear the student is an adult.
2. How a parent gives consent
When a student in Grades 1 to 12 joins, or a parent signs up their family, we email a consent request to the parent or guardian. The parent confirms their email address with a one-time code, confirms that they are an adult and the student’s parent or guardian, and chooses what to allow. A child cannot consent for themselves, and a parent never needs an Acemate account.
Some uses are needed for Acemate to work: the learning platform, AI evaluation and feedback, and emails to the parent. Two are optional: keeping photos of answer sheets for up to 6 months so the student can look back at them, and sharing results with the student’s school or teacher.
3. Changing your mind
At Manage consent, with a code sent to their email, a parent can see what they allowed, switch off an optional use, withdraw consent, and ask for a copy of the child’s data, a correction or deletion. The parent dashboard does the same. If a parent declines or withdraws consent to AI evaluation, we stop sending that student’s work for it. Withdrawal does not undo what has already happened.
4. How we use a child’s data
A child’s progress and mastery estimates, study plans and rewards (XP, coins, gems and streaks) are used only to teach the student, and to report to the student, their parents, and their teachers and school. We never use a child’s data for advertising, never sell it, and do not track children across other websites or apps.
5. Schools
Where a school uses Acemate under an agreement that makes the school the Data Fiduciary for its verified students, the consent notice names the school, we act on the school’s instructions, and the school is the first point of contact for those students’ data.
6. AI feedback can be wrong
AI marks and feedback are an aid to learning, not a final academic judgement. A teacher or parent should review them before anyone relies on them, and where a teacher has marked the work, the teacher’s mark prevails. The full disclaimer is in our Terms of Service, section 3.
